Osteogenis
Imperfecta or Lobstein disease is a common condition effecting thousands
of children in Eastern Europe. The condition is caused by malnutrition.
Children who suffer from the illness have bones that are very weak and
shatter, leaving them in much pain and after a while without the normal
use of their limbs. If they don’t receive medical aid and in most
cases urgent surgery, within a short time they will die a slow painful
death, from bone splinters throughout their bodies |

| In the year 2000 we researched this problem and discovered that flexible telescopic titanium rods if fixed to the bones of these Osteogenesis Imperfecta children could allow them the use of their limbs again. They had to be titanium for strength, and non rejection, flexible to allow a young child all the mobility they would need, and telescopic to grow with the child as it grew. Braun Medical a surgical needs company in Germany produced this ideal solution. On the 13th May 2000 the very first operation of its kind was carried out in the Marie Curie Children’s Hospital, Bucharest, Romania, by a team of surgeons we brought together, who were to make history on that day. Within a month a further three successful operations were carried out, all of which our Children’s foundation provided all the surgical needs costing €60,000.00 Since then these operations are scheduled every month all of which the ““Help Us Dry The Tears” (Divine Mercy in Action) foundation pay for in full. We currently have twelve children waiting for operation. If you feel you can contribute please donate now and give these children a new life. |
