Us Dry The Tears ( Divine Mercy In Action) has started a new service
for destitute pregnant mothers and mothers who are about to have an
abortion, or abandon a newborn baby, or in some cases driven to do much
worse.
Because of the reputation of HUDT in Romania for helping the destitute and the homeless, a Government office approached us to ask if we would be prepared to help with cases that they can not deal with. Up to a short time ago the authorities would have known about these girls but would just have ignored their plight. These are cases where young mothers not having a fixed address and living in derelict buildings or in the sewers of Bucharest, abandon their babies after giving birth. Cases where girls are about to get a back street abortion because they have nowhere to live and no money to support themselves or the child. In all these cases these mothers and babies do not qualify for any help from the state. We have now signed a covenant with the state to say that if they refer them to us for help we will take care of them All cases are assessed first by our Social Workers accompanied by the Sisters working for “Help Us dry the Tears” In the last few weeks we have dealt with three cases, and a fourth has being brought to our attention only few days ago. |

1. Young mother Aurelia, with a baby girl, two months old. After she became pregnant, she was abandoned by her partner. She had nowhere to live and when she gave birth she could not get help from anywhere. We were notified and took the mother and child into our care. |

2. Young mother Mirela A young mother who lived in an abandoned building with two children she was so desperate she was about to abandon the children and we could only speculate about what she was about to do to her own life. We took her and the children into care. One child is one year and six months old and the second is six months. |

3. Young mother Dana This is the most tragic case. She is nineteen years old, she has suffered from AIDS since she was twelve years old. When she was seventeen she had a bad accident that left her with a serious physical disability. At eighteen years of age her partner who also suffered from AIDS died so now she is left with the baby on her own. The doctors don’t know if the baby has HIV or not. She can not feed the baby because she has AIDS. We have taken them both into our care |
